Northern Resonance

Swedish Grammy Nominated trio Northern Resonance is the Scandinavian string trio that pushes the boundaries of Nordic folk music, and brings it into a new soundscape. With their previously untested combination of instruments; viola d’amore, hardanger fiddle and nyckelharpa they let Scandinavian music meet explosive rhythms and grand chamber-like arrangements that takes folk music in a new direction. All members are highly skilled and accomplished musicians, rooted in traditional music. With an intense musical connection that is rare to come across, they invite you into their world of compositions where the trio moves effortlessly outside the soundscape of the tradition but moves just as easily within it. There is great life in their tunes, and the trio knows how to bring it out. With the Swedish Grammy nominated debut album from 2020, Northern Resonance have already established themselves with a glorious sound and have impressed a broad audience worldwide with concerts that are characterized by their explosive energy.

HAAS SISTERS

Sun 29 MARCH 2026

3:30pm, Geelong West town hall

From childhood tunes to chambergrass mastery.

Natalie and Brittany Haas spent their childhood trading Bach suites and Old-Time tunes in equal measure. Then they went their separate ways and became two of the most influential string players working today.
Natalie put cello on the map of contemporary Celtic music through her duo with Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser, absorbing influences from across continents and fashioning a rhythmic approach that belongs to no single tradition. Brittany's fiddle work with Punch Brothers, Hawktail, Crooked Still, and Dave Rawlings Machine has redefined what's possible in American acoustic music, crossing genres with an approach that feels both ancient and entirely new.
Reuniting as HAAS, the duo presents chambergrass music that refuses categorisation. From Nashville to Norway, the Celtic Isles to California, they've built a shared musical vocabulary that moves fluidly between melodic hooks, call-and-response, accompaniment and lead.
With their effortless, intuitive interplay, and having spent decades mastering both their craft and the art of listening to each other, watch as the power of seeing siblings reunite takes centre stage.
